For more than four decades, William Randall Cone has served as the primary financial advisor and investment consultant to fiduciary boards, wealthy families, and their family foundations. Randy runs The Cone Institutional Consulting Group and currently advises fewer than 30 clients on all of the complex issues surrounding their investment portfolios and objectives, such as the settling of investment policies, asset allocation parameters, manager search and ongoing performance measurement.
Randy joined the Washington, D.C. office of UBS in January 2006 after 20 years at Merrill Lynch where he was instrumental in revamping and expanding the firm’s first line of consulting and advisory services. In August of 1990, Randy completed the requirements of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, in conjunction with the Investment Management Consultants Association, to become one of the first investment professionals to be awarded the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designation.
Randy is actively involved in numerous philanthropic, environmental and naturalist activities. His athletic outdoor activities have included completing Olympic level triathlons, marathons and summitting 9 mountains in the US, Europe and South America. Most recently, Randy was appointed to the International Advisory Council for The International Center for Law and Religious Studies at Brigham Young University. He also served on the Board of Trustees of The Institute for Islamic, Christian & Jewish Studies (ICJS), an independent, educational non-profit that seeks to advance interreligious dialogue and understanding by shaping a new relationship among Christians, Jews, and Muslims from June 2013-May 2022. Additionally, Randy was a member of the C&O Canal Trust’s Board of Trustees from May 2015-September 2021. As an official non-profit partner of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historic Park, the Canal Trust partners with the National Park Service to protect, restore, and promote the C&O Canal.
Randy and his wife, Lisa, are both natives of Washington, D.C. also with homes in Nashville, Tennessee and Crested Butte, Colorado. They enjoy spending time with their six children and nine grandchildren.
